The outspoken editor of the Armenian/Turkish weekly Agos was made a target of the Turkish nationalists by the mass media in Turkey  following his conviction on trumped up charges for “insulting Turkishness”…

The courageous voice of Hrant Dink calling for peace and reconciliation
between Armenians and Turks was silenced by his assassination in Istanbul on 19 January 2007.

His solemn funeral in Istanbul, attended by huge crowds (of Armenian, Turkish, Kurdish, Assyrian, Jewish and Greek descent) in a sea of placards reading slogans “We are all Hrant Dink”, “We are all Armenian”, turned to a strong expression of people’s aspiration for living in peace and respecting each other’s ethnic identity and shared history.
