Bu hafta Londra’da yaşayan Türkçe konuşan toplum için iki bayram sevinci yaşanacak.
Sinemaseverler 2.5 yıl aradan sonra Londra Türk Film Festivali’ne kavuşuyor. British Film Institute (BFI) Southbank’ta kırmızı halılı bir galayla 5 Aralık akşamı başlayacak Festival’de 14 gün boyunca 5 sinemada 21 uzun, 16 kısa ve 12 belgesel olmak üzere toplam 49 film gösterilecek.
Festivalin konuğu olacak yönetmenler seyircilerle biraraya gelecek. Türkiye’nin Londra Turizm ve Kültür Ofisi olmak üzere festivale “sponsor” olan kurum ve kuruluşlar şöyle:

When local gangsters get involved, Ahmet and Selim are out of their depth and tragedy ensues. Ahmet struggles to exorcise his dark secrets. Using the traditional Turkish art form of calligraphy as its motif, the film is breathtakingly crafted from a handful of single fluid takes. Havar, meaning ‘cry for help’ in Kurdish, is the name of the young female protagonist living in the remote Turkish village of Batman, notorious for its honour killings. While laundering in the river, Havar ‘loses’ her kerchief to Sedat. Her simple mistake assumes life-or-death proportions: she is branded a loose woman and her arranged husband shies away from marriage. Sedat begs forgiveness for the blunder but Havar’s father, duty-bound by tradition, is encouraged to ‘solve the problem’ of his daughter. Filmed on location and using local non-actors, Havar gives a fresh lick of paint to the subject of honour killing.

Isminin anlamı Kürtçe’de ‘çığlık, yardım çağrısı’ anlamına gelen Havar, namus cinayetlerinin sıklıkla görüldüğü Batman’da yaşayan bir genç kızdır. Nehirde çamaşır yıkadığı sırada yazmasını Sedat’a ‘kaptırır’. Bu küçük hatası ölüm kalım meselesine dönüşecektir; artık ona kötü gözle bakılmaktadır ve nişanlısı evlenmeye yanaşmaz. Sedat bu hatasından dolayı ne kadar af dilese de, Havar’ın geleneklerine bağlı babası, kızıyla ilgili meseleyi ‘çözmekte’ kararlıdır. In a poor Anatolian Town, an old man takes for his bride the beautiful, young girl Güzel, paying her father in land. A forbidden relationship ensues between Güzel and Janjan, the amiable local fool who lost his intellect in a mining accident. As the adultery is discovered, disaster ensues. According to the moral standards of this town, Güzel’s father should kill his own daughter. Janjan shows a poor people battling with its own oppressive dogmas.

Three stories unfold in three European capitals on a single night. It is 2001: the night U.S troops entered Afghanistan. The film is voyeuristic and documentary-style, inspired by the filmmaker’s own experience of working in a kebab shop while studying film Madrid. Made on a tiny budget to maximum effect, Made in Europe tells the story of Turkish immigrant society in Europe.

Çalıştığı cep telefonu şirketini kullanarak Balkanlar’dan ithal çocuk ilacı getirmek isteyen bir doktor kendisinden yardım istediğinde, Mihram bunu kısa yoldan zengin edecek bir fırsat olarak görür. Hopkins’in filmi girişimcilik ve kanunsuzluk arasındaki ince çizgiyi muzip bir bakış açısıyla inceliyor.

“You’d salt the meat if the meat stinks…but what if the salt stinks?” In a lovely coastal town, the decomposed bodies of two men, including one transvestite, are retrieved from a car under the sea. Then two severely injured boys are found on a road. They soon die at the hospital. It turns out that dozens of young women have also been raped in the town. One of these women, the transvestite’s wife, is interrogated to reveal the bonds between the dead bodies. However, some secrets are better left unearthed. Murky Waters, Altun’s first feature, is inspired by three different newspaper stories and follows the form of classic film noir.
“Et kokarsa tuzlarsınız… Ya tuz kokarsa?” Şirin bir sahil kasabasında denizden çıkarılan bir arabada, biri travesti iki kişinin çürümüş cesetleri bulunur. Bu olayı takiben, ağır yaralı halde yolda bulunan iki çocuk hastanede hayatlarını kaybederler. Kasabada onlarca kadına tecavüz edildiği de ortaya çıkınca işler içinden çıkılmaz bir hal alır. Tecavüze uğrayan kadınlardan biri, travestinin karısı, cesetler arasındaki bağlantıyla ilgili sorgulanacaktır. Ancak açığa çıkmaması gereken sırlar vardır. Altun’un ilk uzun metrajı olan Münferit’in hikayesi, gazeteden alınan üç hikayeye dayanıyor. Klasik kara film formunda çekilmiş ilgi çekici bir yapım.

Refugee is based on the director’s interviews with refugees and his experiences of refugee camps in Germany. The son of an influential feudal lord in Southeastern Turkey, Şivan is sent to Germany when he gets caught up between the State and terrorist organisations. Once there, he is placed into a refugee camp. The loneliness and the uncertain, interminable wait for freedom take their toll on him. With his experimental approach to filmmaking, Celik reflects on the tragedy of refugees caught up in the bureaucratic loop.

Focusing on the dramatic potential of non-dramatic moments in life, this acclaimed debut feature portrays different generations of a family struggling along in a peripheral place.

While in prison, Eyüp’s son goes off the rails. Hoping to help her son, Eyüp’s wife approaches Servet for a handout but ends up getting more involved with him than expected. This film looks at the mysteries and contradictions of the human heart. It will represent Turkey at this year’s Oscars.

Their journey into the unknown does not turn out as planned as they leave the comfort zone of İstanbul.
